Hawley firm wins “$100,000 Ben Franklin Award”
Hawley, March 31, 2010
eVendor Check has been awarded $100,000 by Ben Franklin Technology Partners of NEPA for further internet technology development. eVendor Check,  which was founded by Hawley Entrepreneur Doug LaPasta , features an automated internet based system, which uses customer input, to assess a supplier candidate company’s strengths and weaknesses or the risks of a current supplier’s failing to perform.

“We help solve a global problem of great and growing proportions said LaPasta, and I’m pleased to be building Evendor Check right here in Hawley. We plan to add about 20 good paying technical and professional jobs over the next three years and to locate our headquarters to the new Silk Mill complex.”
“Five years ago, I started Skill Survey, another successful internet company in Hawley. But we had to go outside of the area for capital because there were not enough Northeast Pennsylvania investors. Unfortunately the Venture Capitalists who invested over $4M in Skill Survey,  required the company to be moved to Philadelphia, where it now employs 22 professionals with a payroll of nearly $3MM, Not one job stayed in Hawley.”
“With eVendor Check, I mean to change that; the jobs will be here and this Ben Franklin award gives us a great head start. “
According to Kenneth O’Krepkie, Assistant Regional  Manager for Ben Franklin Technology Partners of NEPA.”Ben Franklin is proud to welcome eVendor Check into its portfolio. Serial entrepreneur Doug LaPasta has assembled an excellent management team.
Their innovative product provides  procurement officers with a tool that quickly and easily collects and quantifies reference information on suppliers. Receiving national attention, the product has been endorsed by the Institute for Supply Management as one of their member benefits for their 40,000 members. I look forward to eVendor Check’s continued success.”
